“This is my second time doing the Trench Fitness Transformation Challenge. I was extremely happy with my results from last year’s Challenge and I had learned a lot from the process. However, over the course of the year I slowly fell back into my old lifestyle and managed to erase most of the hard work that I had put in. Upset with myself, I decided that I would do the Challenge again this year, learn from last year’s mistakes, build on that experience and the knowledge I had gained from Trench and not let myself slip back into old habits again.

Everything started out well. Having gone through the experience of the Trench Challenge once already certainly helped. I knew what to expect and I was more prepared to deal with the difficulties that a Challenge like this presents. I also had my wife Sarah doing the Challenge with me. Having someone to meal prep and plan with made the process much more enjoyable. Halfway through this Challenge, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Suddenly I was faced with no access to a gym. I was not sure how I was going to continue the workouts. Fortunately, we were able to borrow a barbell, plates, a bench and dumbbells from a very generous friend, and I was able to build a squat/bench rack from a pile of spare wood sitting in our garage. Neil made a few tweaks to my program and I was able to complete my workouts and cardio for that week.

With all the free time we now had, my wife and I decided to challenge ourselves to make more elaborate meals for ourselves, while staying on track and hitting our macros each day. With the help of Trench, we were confident we could stay on track with our meals. We made pizza each Friday, making sure to budget our macros during the day, so we could afford the pizza for supper. We became more creative in the kitchen and that helped us to stay on track in a situation where it would have been very easy to lose sight of our goals.

This Challenge definitely presented some unique and unexpected challenges. One thing that Neil said to me a long time ago, when I first started with Trench Fitness has always stuck with me and was particularly helpful during this challenge. He said: “Control your environment” Even though it was tougher than normal, we made sure that we always had the food we needed in the kitchen and the equipment we needed in our “home gym” to be able to reach our goals. His advice helped me to succeed.

I want to thank all the entire staff at Trench Fitness for always being friendly, supportive and encouraging. This is what makes Trench Fitness like no other gym in the city. A special thank you to Neil, who always has a positive attitude and is always willing to take the time to help, offer advice and some words or encouragement. I want to thank my wonderful family and friends for their support, And finally, I must thank my wife, Sarah. She was just as supportive as she was last year, but having her doing this Challenge with me made the experience so much better.”
