Everyone will at some point be the victim of a hater. A hater is a negative person who for some reason feels the need to say something mean. Haters like to hate because it makes them feel good to put you down. A hater is someone who typically doesn’t feel good about themselves and instead of striving for self betterment they give up. No one is safe from the haters noose – not even the hippie looking dentist Marc…

A few days ago Ape and I travelled to Saskatoon for Marcs dentistry graduation. After the lengthy convocation we attended the banquet at the prestigious Delta Bessborough. All of the graduates looked spectacular. The women were dressed in beautiful ball gowns with seemingly expensive jewelry. The men were clean shaved, wearing posh looking suits and trendy hairstyles. Everyone looks the part, they looked like doctors. Everyone except our brother Marc… Marc was semi clean shaved, his hair was finger combed and he was sporting a custom suit he purchased on a recent vacation to Thailand. To say that Marc stuck out amongst the other dentists is an understatement.

At the banquet all of the graduates were introduced. As the graduates name was called they would stand, receive a round of applause and a have a few words spoken about their academic achievement’s, outstanding character and things of that sort. When the professor called on Marc yes, he spoke of his academics but the main topic was his old car the Hatermobile. Oh the Hatermobile, an old Ford Festiva that read Haters Gonna Hate down the side. Really… your graduating from the college of dentistry and your legacy is Haters Gonna Hate…

Marc is one of the most unassuming, kind hearted people I know. I couldn’t imagine anyone hating on him BUT lets revert back to victims of hateration. Haters only hate on people who are successful. They only hate on those who put in the work required to accomplish their goals. Marc the hippie looking dentist is prime hater material. He is a good looking, kind, intelligent dentist.

Its not just academic success that breeds hate, I find hate especially prominent in the health and fitness industry. Someone gets sponsored they get hated on. Someone looks great and performs well they get hated on. Someone starts a weight loss program they get hated on. Case in point haters hate successful people. No one cares about the mediocre people who do not strive for more.

So how do you cope with the haters in your life?

You have two options you can either crawl into a ball and live a life of mediocrity, or you can hold your head high and continue to pursuit new levels of success. You must remin strong and feel so much pride that no hater can derail you. Haters do not like other people winning, they do not like other peoples success, they do not like change.
