Signing up for the Trench Transformation Challenge started as the ultimate walk of shame for me. Why you ask? Because I had done this before, and not just with Trench; I’ve lost the weight multiple times in multiple ways. I had all of the tools that I thought I needed, but just couldn’t seem to get them to work for me. So how did I overcome the fear of reaching out to Neil and Erika? I knew that if I was going to do this again I needed help, and the last time I did nutrition and exercise with Trench I was in the best shape of my life.

I was greeted with a welcoming email from Erika, and I have to say, that set the tone for the Challenge for me. Her response helped me realize that I had to stop beating myself up over gaining the weight for what seemed like the millionth time and reminded me that I have done this before, so I can do it again.

I started off with quite a bit more weight to lose compared to the first time I did nutrition and exercise with Trench. I knew that it would be a bit of a longer haul, but I also knew that trusting in the process is what I had to do. Strength in the gym came back quicker than I expected – yay! – and I quickly got my groove back in the kitchen. I am not one to eat chicken, rice and veggies everyday, so I knew I had to get back to being creative to ensure I was able to stick to my nutrition plan. I like to joke at how this “diet” is the worst – I get to eat pizza, burgers, stuffed chicken, pancakes, etc. How terrible! It’s amazing what works when you start to pay attention to the macros in your food. Even when I was at my lowest macros, I made it work to ensure I enjoyed what I was fuelling my body with.

As for the Challenge as a whole, there is something that made signing up extra special.  My husband decided to do the Transformation Challenge along with me. The last time I worked out with Trench, he was super supportive – weighing and measuring food for me to ensure I stayed on track. I didn’t think it could be better than that. I was wrong.

Actually doing the Challenge together has brought us closer. I’ve been a “gym person” as long as he’s known me. I teach fitness classes, attend group classes and have worked out on my own. I haven’t been able to get him to try the gym with me ever, though. Enter the Challenge. When he said that he was going to do it, too, I was shocked! Spending time with him at the gym over the last three months has been so amazing. It feels like some of the best quality time we can spend together – much better than hitting the couch to watch TV and me falling asleep! I know that sounds cheesy, but truly, it’s how I feel.  Spending time together to better ourselves individually is a pretty cool thing. So thank you to Neil and Erika for building Trench. Thank you for bringing in trainers like John and Scotty. We had the pleasure of being put through the paces with Scotty, and he was amazing with both Chris and I for our one-on-one sessions. Thank you for creating a space where the staff and members are supportive. And thank you for taking us on for another 12 weeks of nutrition and exercise. Can’t wait to see what they bring and to lose this weight once and for all!
