“According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than two-thirds of Americans are overweight, and a third, some 72 million people, are considered obese.”

“…9 million children over 6, classified as obese.”

“Bulky clothes are available for children as young as three. Target and Forever 21 offer plus-sized fashions for teens.”

“The New York City Center is replacing seats of 17-to-20-inch width with 19 to 20 inches.”

“New magnetic-resonance-imaging machines hold patients of up to 500 pounds. Surgical instruments are extra long to reach into deeper body cavities. Even blood pressure cuffs are larger, to fit around chubby arms.”

I got caught up reading an article in the L.A Times titled, “Overweight is the New Normal.” Then I went to McDonalds for a coffee where I saw an entire family of obese children scarfing down Value Meals.

Death by donut?

Seriously?!

This breaks my heart.

This makes me want to scream.

Here is my healthy home made version of the McDonalds Baked Apple Pie. Super yummy and much healthier. Try adding other fruits or syrups to change up the flavor!

Apple Pie a la McDonalds

Ingredients:

2 medium apples, peeled and chopped

1 tsp lemon juice

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

2 tbsp stevia

1 tsp sugar free syrup

2 egg roll wrappers

Directions:

1. Combine apple with spice and sugar mixture.

2. Add 1/2 of the mixture to each egg roll.

3. Using a wet finger fold the egg roll over and press firmly.

4. Bake for 15 minutes at 350F. I have also pan friend these babies with great success. Oven baked can make them a bit crispy for my liking. Also, I have microwaved the mixture so soften the apples.
